2016 Call For Entries - CLOSED

Rules and Requirements


Eligibility

  1. Project entries must be works that have achieved substantial completion within the last two calendar years (after January 2014).

  2. The project must be located in CT.

  3. The Project does not need to be occupied, but must be substantially complete and able to demonstrate significant “green” strategies and performance (see Criteria for Judging below).

Entry Categories - Green Projects:

Projects may be nominated in one of the following categories. Built projects must be declared either new construction or renovations.

• Residential Project
Commercial Project
Public / Institutional Project
Student Design
In its 3rd year, the Student Design category seeks projects that intend to promote study and research in the field of environmentally sustainable building, design and operation and that advance the study and practice of sustainable building.  Entries must have been completed while the student(s) is enrolled in school, and after September 2014.  Student(s) must be either a CT resident, or attending an accredited High school or College/University in CT. The submitted project may either be part of an assignment, or extra-curricular work.


Entry Requirements

To be eligible, all entries must be submitted online at: http://www.ctgbc.org/awards2016/project and include the following:

  1. Completed official entry form and a clear description of project team member's roles within the project.

  2. A brief (500 words max.) description of the goals, challenges and solutions of the project team, may be in ‘bullet form’.

  3. Photos/Drawings – a minimum of 5, and maximum of 10 photos, renderings or drawings (PDF or jpg format, max. 10 MB).  Images should include the exterior, the interior and any elements that illustrate the outstanding sustainable aspects of your project.  One image per file.

Criteria for Judging

The criteria to be used for judging will include the following:

•  Clear description of goals, challenges and solutions of the project

•  Quality of design solutions

•  Overall aesthetics of the project

And as applicable:

•  Energy usage

•  Water conservation strategies

•  Material resource use

•  Site design and transport linkage

•  Indoor air quality

Weight is given to documented performance data for building systems & components.


Entry Categories - Green Advocate:

One (1) Green Advocate award will be given to a recipient who is an environmental steward showing excellence in promoting sustainability through education, example, outreach, and leadership. Individuals, organizations, or municipalities are eligible to be nominated as Green Advocates.


Jury

The Jury will be composed of qualified professionals chosen by the CTGBC 2015 Awards Committee.  The Jury reserves the right to re-catgorize entries, at its discretion.



Awards

Award of Excellence – Only one award of excellence will be given, selected from all submissions, in all categories. It is awarded based on the jury’s overall impressions for the most innovative, sustainable project.

Award of Honor – Only one award of honor may be given in each category, for outstanding sustainable achievements in that category.

 

Award of Merit – Any number of this award may be given in each category.  Selected at the discretion of the jury, it recognizes special, noteworthy accomplishment.


Deadline/Announcement of Winners

All entries must be received by the CTGBC website by 5:00 pm on Friday, August 5th, 2016.  Awards winners will be announced by Friday, September 2nd, 2016.

Publicity of Award Winners

All submissions (including photos) become the property of the CTGBC and may be used at the discretion of the CTGBC.  Submission photographs and supporting documents will be used for publicity purposes only.

Award winning projects will be published on the CTGBC website: www.ctgbc.org


*   Submissions failing to meet all of the Entry Requirements will be rendered in default and will not be judged for the Design Awards.

** Your submission will also include your permission for the CTGBC to publish any or all parts of your submission. We will honor any request for confidentiality of an owner if requested.
